ABS Spiral Separator

Newly Plastic Spiral Chute For Fine Ore Separation

The ABS spiral separator is a completely gravity-driven mineral processing device constructed primarily from ABS engineering plastic. It is lighter in weight, features a smoother surface finish, is rust-proof, and offers superior resistance to acid and alkali corrosion compared to fiberglass (FRP). The unit is installed vertically, requiring minimal floor space. Furthermore, the ABS trough resists surface burrs and cracking during long-term use, ensuring smoother slurry flow and clearer mineral separation zones. It is particularly well-suited for the separation of fine-grained minerals in humid operating environments, such as coastal and riverbed sand deposits.

Breve introducción

En ABS spiral separator, also known as the ABS spiral chute o plastic spiral concentrator, is a new type of gravity separation equipment for separating beach sand, zircon sand, and fine-grained metal ores. Its primary working component is a spiral chute made of ABS engineering plastic, mounted vertically on a steel frame; it requires no external power source, relying instead on the gravity flow of the slurry to achieve efficient separation of light and heavy minerals. This equipment is widely used for the separation of non-ferrous metals, rare metals, and non-metallic minerals with different specific gravities, such as ilmenite, chromite, tin ore, tungsten ore, zircon, rutile, and monazite.

Compared to traditional fiberglass (FRP) spiral chutes, the ABS version is approximately 30% lighter, resulting in significantly lower transportation and installation costs. It offers superior impact toughness and resistance to seawater corrosion, ensuring a longer service life in the humid, saline environments typical of coastal sand deposits.

Ventajas

1. Zero power consumption: Operates without motors or drive components, relying entirely on the gravitational potential energy of the slurry.

2. High-quality ABS material: Approximately 30% lighter than fiberglass spiral chutes, facilitating easy transport and installation; resistant to acids, alkalis, and seawater, ensuring a longer service life in humid environments.

3. Compact footprint: Features a vertical layout requiring only 1–2 square meters of floor space, offering high space utilization.

4. Stable recovery rates: Produces distinct mineral zoning under the influence of a composite force field, achieving heavy mineral recovery rates exceeding 90%.

5. Wide range of applications: Effectively processes particles in the 0.03–0.2 mm size range, delivering optimal performance in coastal mineral processing plants for tasks such as heavy mineral recovery from beach sands and the beneficiation of fine-grained metallic minerals.

6. Maintenance-free: No moving parts or components requiring frequent replacement; daily maintenance involves only rinsing the trough surface, resulting in extremely low operating costs.

7. Eco-friendly: No chemical reagents are used, water is recycled, and tailings can be directly discharged or used for backfilling.

8. Simple operation: Requires monitoring only of feed concentration and flow stratification; parameter adjustments are intuitive and easy to master.

9. Rapid investment payback: Low equipment cost and no need for electrical infrastructure; installation and commissioning take just 1–2 days before production begins.

10. Flexible and scalable: Supports single-unit, series, or parallel configurations to meet varying requirements for ore grade and production output.

ABS Spiral Separator Working Principle

After being evenly fed into the hopper at the top of the spiral separator, the slurry flows downward along the spiral trough under the influence of gravity. During this flow, mineral particles undergo density-based stratification within a composite force field comprising gravity, centrifugal force, friction, and hydrodynamic shear forces. Denser mineral particles migrate toward the inner edge of the trough, where flow velocity is lower, while lighter particles are flung toward the outer edge and rapidly discharged with the water flow. Finally, concentrate, middlings, and tailings are separately collected via splitters at the discharge end, achieving a continuous and stable gravity separation process.

Preguntas frecuentes

It is highly effective for separating minerals such as ilmenite, zircon, rutile, and monazite from coastal and riverbed sand deposits, as well as for the roughing and tailings recovery of fine-grained metallic minerals like tin, tungsten, and chromite.

ABS spiral separators are lighter, smoother, and rust-resistant, making them suitable for humid coastal environments. Fiberglass spiral chutes offer slightly better impact resistance but are prone to aging. There is no single “best” option; the choice depends on the specific properties of the ore.

The optimal feed particle size is 0.03–0.2 mm, and the recommended concentration is 25%–55%.

ABS material has a smoother surface that resists mud adhesion, resulting in a longer service life in high-humidity coastal environments.

The ABS trough typically lasts 5 to 10 years. The steel frame requires periodic anti-corrosion inspections, while routine maintenance involves only washing, resulting in very low upkeep costs. Key consideration should be given to the impact of ore characteristics on the materials.

The separator unit itself consumes no electricity; only the upstream sand pump requires a small amount of power, resulting in an overall energy consumption that is far lower than that of a shaking table.

Routine maintenance simply requires periodically rinsing the trough surface to prevent the accumulation of mineral sludge. Regularly check the tightness of the supports and the position of the cutter; no professional maintenance is required.
